Mixed-ligand chelate extraction was studied for La, Pr, Eu, Ho, and Yb into CHCl3 with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-(trifluoroacetyl)-5-pyrazolone (HPMTFP) and with 1 of 3 phosphine oxide compounds (TOPO, octylphenyl(N,N-diisobutylcarbamoylmethyl)phosphine oxide (CMPO), and methylenebis(diphenylphosphine oxide) (MBDPO)). Lanthanide ions are extracted from a 0.1 M NaClO4 as Ln(PMTFP)3(TOPO)2 and Ln(PMTFP)3(CMPO), resp. In the extraction of lanthanides with the mixture of HPMTFP and MBDPO, the extracted species are Ln(PMTFP)3(MBDPO) or Ln(PMTFP)2(ClO4)(MBDPO)2 in the absence or presence of NaClO4, resp. The extraction constants of these systems do not increase monotonically with at. number but have a maximum at Eu or Ho.
