The synergistic solvent extraction of Nd3+, Eu3+, or Lu3+ by 3-methyl-1-phenyl-4-trifluoroacetyl-5-pyrazolone (HL) in the presence of neutral oxo-donors (D) in CHCl3 was studied by using radioactive tracers. The aqueous Ln3+ ions are present as various forms of chloroacetate complexes. Equilibrium extraction constants were determined for Ln3+ by HL in mixtures containing bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfoxide (B2EHSO) or Ph3PO. Adduct formation constants were calculated for LnL3.D and LnL3.2D in the CHCl3 phase. Addition of B2EHSO or Ph3PO increases the Lu-Eu separation factor, while B2EHSO addition decreases the Eu-Nd separation factor (but Ph3PO addition causes a moderate increase).
