A solution of methyl 1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylate (5 g) in dry acetonitrile was treated with cesium carbonate (32.3 g) and methyl iodide (6.45 g) and the mixture was stirred at rt for 2 h. The suspension was filtered and the volatiles were removed under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by chromatography (SiO2, Cy/EtOAc) to yield the desired product (66% yield).
