General procedure: A mixture of dialkyl malonate (10 mmol), anhyd toluene (25 mL), and N,N-dimethylformamide dimethylacetal (DMFDMA) (1.6 mL, 12 mmol) was heated under reflux for 2 h, cooled, and volatile components were evaporated in vacuo.
