An efficient and straightforward method for the synthesis of new and versatile sulfonyl-functionalized allylic amines through the selective copper-catalyzed aza-1,6-conjugate addition of heterocycles or arylamines to 1,4-disubstituted-1,3-dienyl sulfones has been developed. Existing methods for cleanup of wastewaters and soils polluted with the extremely toxic rocket fuel unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) are mainly based on the treatment with various oxidative reagents. Until now, the assessment of their effectiveness was based on the residual content of UDMH and did not take into account the possibility of the formation of a large number of potentially dangerous nitrogen-containing transformation products (Ws). In this study, using the recently developed approach based on high-resolution Orbitrap mass spectrometry, the comprehensive characterization of UDMH TPs formed by the action of air oxygen and different oxidants (Fenton’s reagent, KMnO4, HOCl, H2O2 in the presence of Cu2+ and [Fe (EDTA)](-) catalysts) typically used to detoxify spill sites was performed. The range of the identified molecular formulas of TPs comprised 303 compounds of various classes. Among them, there is a number of major products not previously described in the literature. It was established that none of the investigated oxidative reagents ensures complete conversion of rocket fuel to safe compounds. The hydrogen peroxide based reagents, particularly H2O2 + Na [Fe (EDTA)] system currently used in Kazakhstan, give the greatest number of TPs, for many of which a toxicity was not characterized so far. The majority of the compounds found in model solutions was detected in extracts of soil from the crash site of the Proton carrier rocket, which was subjected to the on-site reagent treatment. A new semi-theoretical equation is suggested for correlation of solid-liquid solubility data with temperature. The (solid + liquid) equilibrium for Terephthaldialdehyde, 4-Nitro-o-phennylenediamine, 2,4-dihydro- 5-methyl-2(4-methylphenyl)-3H-pyrazol-3-one (also named 1-(p-toly1)-3-methyl-5pyrazolone (PTMP)), 2-Amino-5-methylthiazole and 5-chloro-1-methyl-4-nitroimidazole in 18 solvents is correlated with semi-empirical models at temperatures T = 273.15 – 318.15 K under a pressure of 101.2 kPa. Moreover, a modified Apelblat model, lambda h model, Wilson model, NRTL model, new flexible equation as Akbari, Dideban and Farhang model (ADF) and for first time the modified Scatchard-Hildebrand equation were utilized to calculate the experiment values. The performance of both ADF and modified Scatchard-Hildebrand equation have been checked by calculating the solubility data with the AARD% of 1.3808% (for 775 data points) and 0.65% (for 100 data points), respectively. The Wilson model is applied to estimate the mixing Gibbs energy, mixing enthalpy, mixing entropy, activity coefficient (ln gamma(infinity)(1)) and reduced excess enthalpy (H-I(E,infinity)) at infinitesimal concentration were calculated.

Catalyst deactivation caused by the aggregation of active metal species in the reaction process poses great challenges for practical applications of supported metal catalysts in solid-liquid catalysis. Herein, we develop a hypercrosslinked polymer integrated with N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) as bifunctional support to stabilize palladium in heterogeneous C-C bond formations. This polymer supported palladium catalyst exhibits excellent stability in the one-pot fluorocarbonylation of indoles to four kinds of valuable indole-derived carbonyl compounds in cascade or sequential manner, as well as the representative Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction. Investigations on stabilizing effect disclose that this catalyst displays a molecular fence effect in which the coordination of NHC sites and confinement of polymer skeleton contribute together to stabilize the active palladium species in the reaction process. This work provides new insight into the development of supported metal catalysts with high stability and will also boost their efficient applications in advanced synthesis. In this study, three triazole based azo molecules [3-amino-4-[1H-1,2,4-triazole-3-yldiazenyl]-1H-pyrazole-5-ol (1), 3-[(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole-4-yl)diazenyl]-1H-1,2,4-triazole (2) and 4-[1H-1,2,4triazole-3yldiazenyl]benzene-1,3-diol (3)] were, synthesized and characterized by using 1H NMR, FTIR, UV-vis and mass spectra. The molecular structure, vibrational spectroscopic data, electronic transition absorption wavelengths, HOMOs and LUMOs analyses, molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) and potential energy surface (PES) diagrams were calculated by using DFT/B3LYP method with 6-311G(d,p) basis set. NMR chemical shift calculations were performed by using the gauge-invariant atomic orbital (GIAO) method. The spectroscopic results obtained from quantum chemical calculations of the 1, 2 and 3 molecules were in good agreement with the experimental data. Antibacterial activities of the 1, 2 and 3 were investigated against four different bacterial cultures. Although 1 molecule did not show very good antibacterial activity, 2 and 3 showed good activity against Staphylococcus aureus at a MIC of 250 and 62.5 mg/mL, respectively. Druglikeness and some of the pharmacokinetic properties of the 1, 2 and 3 were also examined. In addition, molecular docking studies were performed to investigate the antibacterial properties of synthesized compounds by in silico method. For this purpose, beta-ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein (ACP) synthase III (KAS III) and lipoteichoic acid synthase (LtaS) inhibitory properties of 1, 2 and 3 molecules were investigated. Although all of the synthesized compounds showed antibacterial properties according to the results of the molecular docking studies, the best results were obtained by the compound 3 which interacts with both KAS III and LtaS with binding energy of -7.17 and -7.53 kcal/mol, respectively. A series of pyrazole ligands named as 1,4-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)butane (bbd), 1,3-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)propane (bdpp), and 1,3-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)propane-2-ol (bdpo) along with their transition metal complexes including [Cu-2(mu(3)-SCN)(2)(mu-bbd)](n), [Cu-2(mu(3)-SCN)(2)(mu-bdpp)](n), and [Cu2Hg(mu(2)-SCN)(2)(bdpo)(2)(CH3COO)(2)](n)were synthesized and characterized using FT-IR and Uv-vis spectroscopies, as well as thermal gravimetric analysis. The prepared compounds were investigated as corrosion inhibitors to protect mild steel in 0.5 M H(2)SO(4)solution. Corrosion tests were performed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization measurements. The pyrazole ligands exhibited inhibition efficiencies in a range of 38-78%, which introduced them as moderate inhibitors. On the other hand, the pyrazole complexes showed inhibition efficiencies higher than 85%, demonstrating their high potentials to mitigate the steel corrosion. In addition, the bimetallic complex resulted in higher corrosion resistance than the two monometallic complexes. This was evidence of a critical role of the coordinated metal of the complex in forming an adhesive protection film on the steel surface.

Importance: treatment of dementia in individuals with comorbidities is complex, leading to potentially inappropriate prescribing (PIP). The impact of PIP in this population is unknown. Objective: to estimate the rate of PIP and its effect on adverse health outcomes (AHO). Design: retrospective cohort. Setting: primary care electronic health records linked to hospital discharge data from England. Subjects: 11,175 individuals with dementia aged over 65 years in 2016 and 43,463 age- and sex-matched controls. Methods: Screening Tool of Older Persons’ Prescriptions V2 defined PIP. Logistic regression tested associations with comorbidities at baseline, and survival analyses risk of incident AHO, adjusted for age, gender, deprivation and 14 comorbidities. Results: the dementia group had increased risk of PIP (73% prevalence; odds ratio [OR]: 1.92; confidence interval [CI]: 83-103%; P < 0.01) after adjusting for comorbidities. Most frequent PIP criteria were related to anti-cholinergic drugs and therapeutic duplication. This study provides a phenomenological method to describe the exponential growth, saturation, and decay of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) deaths and infections via a Monte Carlo approach. The calculations connect Gompertz-type trial distributions of infected people per day with the distribution of deaths adopting two gamma distributions to account for the elapsed time that encompass the incubation and symptom onset to death periods. The analyses include death data from the USA, Brazil, Mexico, the United Kingdom (UK), India, and Russia, which comprise the four countries with the highest number of deaths and the four countries with the highest number of confirmed cases, as of August 07, 2020, according to theWorld Health Organization webpage. The Gompertz functions were fitted to the data of weekly averaged confirmed deaths per day by mapping the chi(2) values. The uncertainties, variances, and covariances of the model parameters were calculated by propagation, taking into account the standard errors of the data for each epidemiological week. The fitted functions for the average deaths per day for the USA and India have an upward trend, with the former having a higher growth rate and quite huge uncertainties. For Mexico, the UK, and Russia, the fits are consistent with a downward-sloping pattern. For Brazil we found a subtle trend down but with significant uncertainties. The USA, UK, and India data showed first peaks with higher growth rates compared with the second ones (4.2, 2.2, and 3.5 times higher, respectively), demonstrating the benefits of nonpharmacological interventions of sanitary measures and social distance flattening the secondary peaks of the pandemic. For the case of the USA, however, a third peak seems quite plausible, most likely related with the recent relaxation policies. Brazil’s data are satisfactorily described by two highly overlapped Gompertz functions with similar growth rates, suggesting a two-step process for the pandemic spreading. For the cases of Mexico and Russia single peaks with smoother slopes fitted the data satisfactorily. The 95% confidence intervals for the total number of deaths (x10(3)) predicted by the model for August 31, 2020, are 160 to 220, 110 to 130, 59 to 62, 41.3 to 41.4, 54 to 63, and 16.0 to 16.7 for the USA, Brazil, Mexico, the UK, India, and Russia, respectively. Our estimates for the point prevalences of infections are compared with some preliminary data from serological studies and/or model calculations focused on the USA, Brazil, and UK scenarios. The point prevalences and 95% confidence intervals for August 1, 2020, were estimated to be 5.7 (3.9-7.5)%, 8.9 (7.4-10.3)%, 9.3 (8.3-10.3)%, 5.7 (4.5-6.9)%, 0.9 (0.8-1.0%), and 1.2 (1.0-1.3)% for the USA, Brazil, Mexico, the UK, India, and Russia, respectively. The method represents an effective few-parameter framework to estimate the line shape of the infection curves and the uncertainties of the relevant parameters based on the actual death data of a pandemic.
