Then, a solution of (RS)-4 (110 g, 396 mmol) in anhydrous THF (1.0 L) was added dropwise to the above solution over 1 h at the same temperature. The resulting mixture was stirred at -78 C for 1.5 h. TLC (PE-EtOAc, 1:2) showed (RS)-4 was completely consumed. The mixture was poured into sat. aq NH4Cl (1 L) and extracted with EtOAc (3 \u00a1\u00c1 0.8 L). The combined organic extracts were washed with brine (1 L), dried (Na2SO4), and concentrated to give the crude product.
