Then methyl 4-amino-3-methylbenzoate (compound 11, 5.00 g, 30.3 mmol) was added, stirred at -5 C. for 30 min. The mixture was warmed to 25 C., stirred for 11 hrs. TLC (petroleum ether:ethyl acetate=1:1, Rf=0.52) showed starting material consumed completely. The mixture was concentrated in vacuum to give light yellow oil.
