The reaction mixture was concentrated, diluted with 100 mLof H2O, and neutralized to pH 7 with 6.0 M aq. HCl. The aq. mixture was extracted with EtOAc (2 x100 mL), and the combined extracts were dried (Na2CO3),filtered, and concentrated to afford 4.3 g (99%) of intermediate 7a as a yellow solid.
