A mixture of 1-methyl-1H-pyrazole (7) (37 gm, 0.6090 moles), iodine (57.1 gm,0.225 moles), hydrogen peroxide (9.2 gm, 0.27 moles) and DI water (I 10 ml) were stirred for 24 hour at 20-30C. Progress of the reaction was monitored by HPLC. The reaction mixture was cooled to 5-10C. The reaction mixture was quenched with 20% aqueous sodium bisulfate (100 ml) and stirred for I hour at 5-10C.
