The reaction mixture was heated in an oil bath at 120C for 24h with continuous stirring. After completion of reaction monitored by TLC, the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and was extracted with diethyl ether three times (3\u00a1\u00c110ml). The combined organic layers were washed with brine solution and dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (60-120 mesh) to provide the N-aryl indole in 88% yield. The remaining glycerol\/copper catalytic mixture was reused for further recycling study by adding fresh DMSO (1mmol) to the catalytic system.
