To a solution of 3-bromo-1H-pyrazole (10 g, 68.0 mmol) in H2SO4 (50 mL) was added HNO3 (10.7 g, 170 mmol) at 0-10 C. Then, the mixture was stirred at 80 C. for 2 hours. On completion, the mixture was cooled to 25 C. Then, the mixture was poured into ice\/water (300 mL), then extracted with EA (3\u00a1\u00c1150 mL). The combined organic layer was washed with sat. aq. NaHCO3 (100 mL) and brine (100 mL), dried over Na2SO4, and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (11.2 g, 85% yield) as yellow solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) delta 8.94 (s, 1H).<\/p>\n
