To a solution of (l-methyl-lH-pyrazol-5-yl)methanol (500 mg, 4.46 mmol) in anhydrous dichloromethane (20 mL) was added PBr3 (1.21g, 4.46 mmol) at 0 C. The mixture was purged with nitrogen and stirred at room temperature for 12 h. The reaction mixture was adjusted to pH -8.5 with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate, and then was extracted with dichloromethane (10 mL x 3). The combined organic phase was dried by anhydrous sodium sulphate, filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by preparative TLC (petroleum ether\/ acetic ester =5: 1) to afford the title compound an off-white oil (500 mg, 64%) m\/z 174.<\/p>\n
