A new convenient and versatile halogenating system (R(4)NHal/NOHSO4), giving straightforward and general access to halogenated 3,5-diaryl- and alkylarylisoxazoles, pyrazoles and electron-rich benzenes from the corresponding scaffolds, is suggested. The method provides excellent regioselectivity, scalability to the gram scale, and a broad scope for both aromatics and halogens. A three-step, one-pot reaction protocol was developed, and a series of 3,5-diaryl-4-haloisoxazoles has been efficiently synthesized from 1,2-diarylcyclopropanes under suggested nitrosating-halogenating conditions.

Disclosed here is the first well-defined model study for reactions between zinc(II) thiolate complexes and copper(II) complexes. Among all the studied ligands of copper(II), diethyldithiocarbamate (DTC) displays a unique redox-tuning ability that enables copper(II) to resist the reduction by thiols while retaining its ability to oxidize zinc(II) thiolates to form disulfides. This work proves for the first time that it is possible to develop oxidants to discriminate between thiols and zinc(II) thiolates, alluding to a new chemical principle for how oxidants, especially universal anticancer Cu(DTC)(2), might circumvent the intracellular reductive defense around certain zinc(II) thiolate sites of proteins to kill malignant cells.

New cis-(1,2-azole)-aquo bis(2,2′-bipyridyl)-ruthenium(II) (1,2-azole (az*H) = pzH (pyrazole), dmpzH (3,5-dimethylpyrazole), and indzH (indazole)) complexes are synthesized via chlorido abstraction from cis-[Ru(bipy)(2)Cl(az*H)]OTf. The latter are obtained from cis-[Ru(bipy)(2)Cl-2] after the subsequent coordination of the 1,2-azole. All the compounds are characterized by H-1, C-13, N-15 NMR spectroscopy as well as IR spectroscopy. Two chlorido complexes (pzH and indzH) and two aquo complexes (indzH and dmpzH) are also characterized by X-ray diffraction. Photophysical and electrochemical studies were carried out on all the complexes. The photophysical data support the phosphorescence of the complexes. The electrochemical behavior of all the complexes in an Ar atmosphere indicate that the oxidation processes assigned to Ru(II) -> Ru(III) occurs at higher potentials in the aquo complexes. The reduction processes under Ar lead to several waves, indicating that the complexes undergo successive electron-transfer reductions that are centered in the bipy ligands. The first electron reduction is reversible. The electrochemical behavior in CO2 media is consistent with CO2 electrocatalyzed reduction, where the values of the catalytic activity [i(cat)(CO2)/i(p)(Ar)] ranged from 2.9 to 10.8. Controlled potential electrolysis of the chlorido and aquo complexes affords CO and formic acid, with the latter as the major product after 2 h. Photocatalytic experiments in MeCN with [Ru(bipy)(3)]Cl-2 as the photosensitizer and TEOA as the electron donor, which were irradiated with >300 nm light for 24 h, led to CO and HCOOH as the main reduction products, achieving a combined turnover number (TONCO+HCOO-) as high as 107 for 2c after 24 h of irradiation.

Two unexpected one-dimensional coordination polymers, [Cu(PT)(H2O)Cl](n) 1 and [Cu-2(BPT)(ClO4)(3)(H2O)(4)](n)center dot 2nH(2)O 2, of symmetrical triazine-based ligands were synthesized by Cu(II)-mediated hydrolysis of the 2,4-bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-6-methoxy-1,3,5-triazine (MBPT) pincer ligand. The reaction of Cu(ClO4)(2)center dot 6H(2)O with MBPT proceeded via hydrolysis of the methoxy group to produce the dicompartmental 4,6-bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-triazin-2(1H)-one ligand (HBPT) that then undergoes in situ complexation with Cu(II) to afford 2. In case of CuCl2, the reaction proceeds further with C-N cleavage of one pyrazolyl unit leading to the formation of 6-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-triazine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione ligand (HPT) that also undergoes in situ complexation with Cu(II) affording 1. The role of Cu(II) is to increase the Lewis acid reactivity of the water molecule where similar hydrolytic reactions for MBPT were observed in acidic medium in presence of an aqueous HCl (1:1 v/v) solution. The molecular and supramolecular structures of complexes 1 and 2 were investigated using X-ray diffraction of single crystal, Hirshfeld analysis, and density functional theory calculations. The Cl center dot center dot center dot H (11.7%) and O center dot center dot center dot H (24.7%) contacts are the most important in 1, whereas the molecular packing of 2 is controlled mainly by the O center dot center dot center dot H (58.7%) hydrogen bonds. Complex 2 showed better activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, and Candida albicans compared with the standard antibiotics amoxicillin, tetracycline, and ampicillin. In general, complexes 1 and 2 showed good antimicrobial activity than these antibiotics and have the advantage to be used as both antibacterial and antifungal agents.

Monomeric zinc ferrocene carboxylate [Zn(FcCOO)(3,5-dmp)(2)Cl] (1) has been synthesized from a reaction between the zinc chloride, sodium salt of ferrocene carboxylic acid (FcCOONa) and 3,5-dimethylpyrazole (3,5-dmp) at room temperature. Compound 1 was further characterized by elemental analysis, H-1 NMR, FT-IR, absorption, emission spectroscopic techniques, and molecular structure was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The molecular structure of compound 1 crystallized in triclinic system with P (1) over bar space group and the central Zn2+ ion is in a distorted tetrahedral geometry with -FeN2OCl coordination environment. Compound 1 was further stabilized with the aid of inter and intramolecular hydrogen bonding and pi-pi interaction between cyclopentadienyl ring of ferrocene and aromatic heterocyclic five membered 3,5-dimethylpyrazole. Compound 1 exhibits broad emission band, indicating ligandto-metal charger transfer (LMCT) or metal-to-ligand charger transfer (MLCT) nature. The electrochemical property of compound 1 revealed that one-electron anodic and cathodic peaks corresponding to the redox responsible of ferrocene/ferrocenium (FeII <-> Fe-III) moiety. Among the different strains of bacteria, the antibacterial activity of compound 1 showed comparatively a significant activity against gram negative bacterium Proteus vulgaris. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. A new approach is suggested herein for the synthesis of pyrazole derivatives by reacting 4-nitrosemicarbazide with acetylacetone. Additional studies were done on the reaction of acetylacetone with semicarbazide and its derivatives (4-aminosemicarbazide, methylsemicarbazide, and dimethylsemicarbazide). The study on the reaction with acetylacetone resulted in monocyclic 3,5-dimethyl-N-nitropyrazole-1-carboxamide, monocyclic 5-hydroxy-3,5-dimethyl-2-pyrazoline, and bicyclic bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazole-1-carbonyl)hydrazine, and conditions for the formation of acetone semicarbazone were identified. The structures of the resultant compounds were validated by physicochemical analytical methods, including X-ray diffraction. The computer-aided screening in the PASS prediction software discovered a high biological activity of the newly obtained compounds.

This paper reports a metal-free and external oxidant-free electrochemical method for the C-3 amination of 2H-indazoles. The protocol employs commercially available azoles and aliphatic amines as amination reagents and has a broad substrate scope, providing the corresponding C3-amination products in high yields at room temperature.
