Background: The high prevalence of physician burnout, particularly in emergency medicine, has garnered national attention in recent years. Objective means of measuring stress while at work can facilitate research into stress reduction interventions, and wearable photoplethysmography (PPG) technology has been proposed as a potential solution. However, the use of low-burden wearable biosensors to study training and clinical practice among emergency physicians (EP) remains untested. Objective: This pilot study aimed to (1) determine the feasibility of recording on-shift photoplethysmographic data from EP, (2) assess the quality of these data, and (3) calculate standard pulse rate variability (PRV) metrics from the acquired dataset and examine patterns in these variables over the course of an academic year. Methods: A total of 21 EP wore PPG biosensors on their wrists during clinical work in the emergency department during a 9-hour shift. Recordings were collected during the first quarter of the academic year, then again during the fourth quarter of the same year for comparison. The overall rate of usable data collection per time was computed. Standard pulse rate (PR) and PRV metrics from these two time points were calculated and entered into Student t tests. Results: More than 400 hours of data were entered into these analyses. Interpretable data were captured during 8.54% of the total recording time overall. In the fourth quarter of the academic year compared with the first quarter, there was no significant difference in median PR (75.8 vs 76.8; P=.57), mean R-R interval (0.81 vs 0.80; P=.32), SD of R-R interval (0.11 vs 0.11; P=.93), root mean square of successive difference of R-R interval (0.81 vs 0.80; P=.96), low-frequency power (3.5×103 vs 3.4×103; P=.79), high-frequency power (8.5×103 vs 8.3×103; P=.91), or low-frequency to high-frequency ratio (0.42 vs 0.41; P=.43), respectively. Power estimates for each of these tests exceeded .90. A secondary analysis of the resident-only subgroup similarly showed no significant differences over time, despite power estimates greater than .80. Conclusions: Although the use of PPG biosensors to record real-time physiological data from EP while providing clinical care seems operationally feasible, this study fails to support the notion that such an approach can efficiently provide reliable estimates of metrics of interest. No significant differences in PR or PRV metrics were found at the end of the year compared with the beginning. Although these methods may offer useful applications to other domains, it may currently have limited utility in the contexts of physician training and wellness.

Two novel space craft-like octanuclear Co(II)-silsesquioxane nanocages, {Co-8[(MeSiO2)(4)](2)(dmpz)(8)} (SD/Co8a) and {Co-8[(PhSiO2)(4)](2)(dmpz)(8)} (SD/Co8b) (SD = SunDi; Hdmpz = 3,5-dimethylpyrazole), have been constructed from two similar multidentate silsesquioxane ligands assisted with a pyrazole ligand. The Cob skeleton consists of eight tetrahedral Co(II) ions arranged in a ring and is further capped by two (MeSiO2)(4) ligands up and down. The auxiliary dmpz(-) ligands seal the ring finally. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry revealed SD/Co8a and SD/Co8b are highly stable in CH2Cl2. Magnetic analysis implies that SD/Co8a announces antiferromagnetic interactions between Co(II) ions. Moreover, both of them display good homogeneous catalytic activity for hydroboration of ketones in the presence of pinacolborane under mild conditions.

Pyrazoles and hydrazones, as two significant kinds of potentially bioactive compounds, were produced with good to excellent yields by condensation of beta-dicarbonyl compounds with hydrazines in aqueous media in the presence of Fe3O4@CeO2 nanocomposite as an efficient heterogeneous nanocatalyst. The magnetic nanocatalyst can readily be separated using an external magnet and reused at least six times without significant loss in activity. The products were characterized by IR and H-1 and(13)C NMR spectra.

The limitations of arene C-H functionalization of aryl sulfonamides containing strongly coordinating Nheterocycles were overcome using a Rh(III) catalyst. The site-selectivity of C-H carbenoid functionalization at the ortho position relative to either the sulfonamide or N-heterocycle directing groups was elegantly switched using solvents of different polarities and different additive concentrations. Importantly, sulfonamide-group-directed ortho-C-H carbenoid functionalization tolerated strongly coordinating N-heterocycles, including pyridine, pyrrole, thiazole, pyrimidine, and pyrazine. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to rationalize the reaction mechanisms and the influence of reaction polarity.

Background: The Islamic Republic of Iran is at high risk of natural disasters. Households are the basic unit of society and they need to be prepared for disasters. Aims: This study assessed disaster preparedness among Iranian households in 2015. Methods: Using multistage cluster sampling, 2968 households in the catchment area of 53 public health departments in all 30 provinces of the Islamic Republic of Iran were surveyed on the disaster preparedness measures they had taken in the past year. The data collection questionnaire included 15 disaster preparedness measures. The mean preparedness score was calculated and its association with residence (urban versus rural), house ownership (owner versus renter) and education level of the head of the household (illiterate, elementary school, middle school, high school, university) was evaluated. Results: The mean score for household disaster preparedness was 9.3 out of 100 (95% confidence interval: 8.3-10.3). Multivariate analysis showed higher preparedness among rural than urban households (P = 0.02). Higher education level was positively associated with a higher preparedness score (P < 0.001), as was house ownership (P < 0.001). Conclusion: The level of household disaster preparedness in the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2015 was low. In line with the first priority for action of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the current study provides an overall picture of household disaster preparedness in the Islamic Republic of Iran. This estimation can be used as a baseline value for policy-making, planning, and evaluation of public awareness of disasters in the country. We have developed a Rh(iii)-catalyzed C-H alkenylation reaction of the N,N-bidentate chelating compound 2-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine with alkenes via rollover cyclometalation. Mono- and dialkenyl-substituted 2-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridines could be selectively synthesized in moderate to good yields by tuning the reaction conditions. Further synthetic transformations were conducted to demonstrate the synthetic potential of our products.

Dearomatization of indole derivatives offers a straightforward approach to access diverse indolines. To date, the corresponding dearomative transformations involving electron-deficient indoles are limited. Herein, we report a one-electron strategy for dearomatization of electron-deficient indoles via a photoredox-catalyzed hydroalkylation employing commercially available glycine derivatives as the hydrofunctionalization reagents. Corn stover is hydrothermally carbonized at different temperatures (180 degrees C, 200 degrees C, 220 degrees C, 240 degrees C and 260 degrees C) for 4 h, for different residence times (1 h, 2 h, 4 h, 12 h and 24 h) at 220 degrees C, or by adding acid (1% and 2%) at 220 degrees C for 4 h. The yields, elemental analysis, functional group analysis, molecular composition and microstructure of those hydrochars are characterized, and the nitrogen recovery in the by-products is analysed to further understand the elemental transformation in the progress of hydrothermal carbonization. The results indicate that a higher temperature, longer residence time or acid addition can cause lower yields and simultaneously reduce the H/C (0.76-1.33) and O/C (0.19-0.68) ratios of the hydrochars by 13.1%-50.5% and 9.3-73.4% compared with feedstock, respectively. Py-GC/MS analyses showed that furan compounds decreasing or disappearing and phenolic compounds increasing significantly promotes the aromaticity of hydrochar during the hydrothermal carbonization, especially under severe conditions. The SEM images of hydrochars show that the formation of carbon spheres is the cause of changes in the surface morphology of hydrochar. The nitrogen recovery efficiency increased with the reaction severity, so that the liquid by-product from corn stovers by hydrothermal carbonization may be used as a fertilizer due to its abundant nutrients. This study provides an indepth understanding of the corn stover-derived hydrochar, which is of great significance for the potential application of hydrochar.
