Two new Ni(II) coordination complexes of pyrazole and acetato ligands, involving nitrate and chloride counter anions, viz. [Ni(Hdmpz)(2)(CH3COO)(H2O)(3)]NO3 center dot 2H(2)O (1) and [Ni(Hdmpz)(2)(CH3COO)(H2O)(3)]Cl (2) (where Hdmpz = 3,5-dimethylpyrazole), have been synthesized in purely aqueous medium at room temperature. The complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, electronic spectroscopy, PXRD, TGA and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The H-bonds established between the isostructural cationic [Ni(Hdmpz)(2)(CH3COO)(H2O)(3)](+) moieties of both complexes can be classified as anti-electrostatic H-bonds (AEHBs) and these have been studied using DFT calculations. Remarkably, in one case these AEHBs exhibit favorable interaction energies, thus indicating that the attractive nature of the H-bonds is able to compensate the pure electrostatic repulsion. The analyses of the cell viability results for the DL cell line show a significant concentration dependent decrease by compounds 1 and 2 with a negligible cytotoxic effect observed against normal cells (PBMC) in comparison to the cancer cells (DL). The cytotoxic activity of these compounds in DL cells occurs via apoptosis. Molecular docking and SAR analysis reveal that the compounds possess high binding affinities against most common cancer target proteins. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Two unexpected one-dimensional coordination polymers, [Cu(PT)(H2O)Cl](n) 1 and [Cu-2(BPT)(ClO4)(3)(H2O)(4)](n)center dot 2nH(2)O 2, of symmetrical triazine-based ligands were synthesized by Cu(II)-mediated hydrolysis of the 2,4-bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-6-methoxy-1,3,5-triazine (MBPT) pincer ligand. The reaction of Cu(ClO4)(2)center dot 6H(2)O with MBPT proceeded via hydrolysis of the methoxy group to produce the dicompartmental 4,6-bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-triazin-2(1H)-one ligand (HBPT) that then undergoes in situ complexation with Cu(II) to afford 2. In case of CuCl2, the reaction proceeds further with C-N cleavage of one pyrazolyl unit leading to the formation of 6-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-triazine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione ligand (HPT) that also undergoes in situ complexation with Cu(II) affording 1. The role of Cu(II) is to increase the Lewis acid reactivity of the water molecule where similar hydrolytic reactions for MBPT were observed in acidic medium in presence of an aqueous HCl (1:1 v/v) solution. The molecular and supramolecular structures of complexes 1 and 2 were investigated using X-ray diffraction of single crystal, Hirshfeld analysis, and density functional theory calculations. The Cl center dot center dot center dot H (11.7%) and O center dot center dot center dot H (24.7%) contacts are the most important in 1, whereas the molecular packing of 2 is controlled mainly by the O center dot center dot center dot H (58.7%) hydrogen bonds. Complex 2 showed better activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, and Candida albicans compared with the standard antibiotics amoxicillin, tetracycline, and ampicillin. In general, complexes 1 and 2 showed good antimicrobial activity than these antibiotics and have the advantage to be used as both antibacterial and antifungal agents.

Kaolin, CaO and K2CO3 enhanced tar secondary reactions, reduced the yield and O/C ratio of bio-oil, improved GC-MS areas of phenolic compounds to 76.25%, 89.28% and 93.1%, respectively. All additives improved yields of H-2 and CH4, while CaO reduced CO2. With increasing temperature, relative proportion (RP) of HCN/NH3 reached up to 13.67, while RP of H2S and chlorine in volatiles increased from 1.17%, 5.97% to 2.75%, 9.00%, respectively. Ammonia nitrogen in volatiles increased to 6.94% by K2CO3. Kaolin improved RP of HCN from 0.11% to 5.47%, while K2CO3 eliminated HCN. H2S increased with kaolin addition and decreased with CaO and K2CO3. Electricity consumption of MWAP varied from 0.5 to 3.78 (kWh/kg FR) depending on temperatures and additives. Electrocatalytic hydrogenation is a particularly attractive approach for converting the most unstable compounds in biogenic feedstocks at ambient conditions without external H-2. Here, we synthesized a variety of carbon-supported transition metal catalysts and characterized their activity for the electrocatalytic hydrogenation of a series of model compounds and pyrolysis bio-oil. Carbonyl compounds, especially aromatic aldehydes, such as furfural and benzaldehyde, are particularly inclined to hydrogenation driven by an applied current. This was verified with pure solutions of the model compounds and with pyrolysis bio-oil, where we achieved stable and steady continuous operation on Pd. When optimal catalyst composition was chosen, the conversion of benzaldehyde shifted from alcohol production (e.g., on Pd and Cu) to dimerization (e.g., on Co, Ni, and Zn). Pd and Cu were shown to offer the best compromise between reaction rates and efficiency although, in general, base metals offer similar conversions but better efficiencies than noble metals. Thus, the present work offers foundational results and guidelines for choosing the optimal metal catalyst and the applied potential for processing organic feedstocks as a function of its composition.

As consumers generally desire longer lasting scratch-free coatings, scratch resistance has become one of the most important properties of automotive coatings. Surface scratches that deform a coating but do not break it can recover over time, eventually even becoming invisible to the human eye. This phenomenon arises from elastic plastic behavior and is called self-recover?. This paper mainly focuses on the recovery of scratch deformations. Conventional coatings with low glass transition temperature (Tg) have fast recovery characteristics, like rubbers, but cannot attain sufficient hardness. Therefore, it is difficult to simultaneously improve both scratch recovery characteristics and hardness in conventional coatings such as 2 K urethane coatings consisting of acrylic polyols because both arise from the same causes as the mobility of the main chain of the coating. Herein, we explore the remarkable improvement of scratch recovery characteristics without sacrificing hardness by using a base resin with a siloxane main chain instead of a carbon-carbon main chain such as that of an acrylic polyol. We demonstrate that crosslinked polyorganosilsesquioxane coatings (Si-films) achieve both hardness suitable for automobile coatings and improved scratch recovery characteristics superior to those of conventional coatings (C-films). Si-films demonstrated 20% better elastic recovery index than C-films, and the Si-films recovered about twice as fast as the C-films. Scratch deformations on the Si-films almost disappeared after 15 min, even at room temperature, while C-films were needed over 24 days. Thus, coatings based on a siloxane main chain may offer dramatically improved self-recovery.

Two novel room-temperature disulfonic acid functionalized ionic liquids derived from 3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazole consisting of chloride and trichlorostannate anions, 3,5-dimethyl-1,2-disulfonic acid-1H-pyrazolium chloride and 3,5-dimethyl-1,2-disulfonic acid-1H-pyrazolium trichlorostannate, have been synthesized, characterized and evaluated for their catalytic efficiency in the synthesis of 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-5,10-diones by the one-pot, three-components reaction of phthalhydrazide, an aromatic aldehyde and malononitrile or ethyl cyanoacetate under solvent-free conditions. The results have demonstrated high catalytic activity of these novel ionic liquids containing acidic SO3H groups in producing high yields of the desired products in short reaction time. The ionic liquids can be used at least four times without any noticeable decrease in catalytic activity.

The search for new fluorescent materials with high quantum yields has been the focus of research, considering the diverse applications that fluorescent materials present. In this study, ferrocenyl pyrazolyl (L1) and ferrocenyl triazolyl (L2) ligands and their palladium metal complexes (1 and 2) were synthesized to investigate their fluorescence properties. While the pyrazolyl ligand was prepared through a ligand substitution reaction, synthesis of the triazolyl derivative involved the [3 + 2] azide-alkyne using click chemistry. All the prepared compounds have been characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, mass spectrometry and single-crystal X-ray crystallography. These air-stable compounds were prepared in moderate to good yields (70% and 83%). The ferrocenyl-pyrazolyl L1 and ferrocenyl-triazolyl L2 ligands showed near-infrared (NIR) emission bands with quantum yields of 20% and 26% respectively. The addition of the Pd2+ ions results in the reduction of fluorescence intensity and quantum yield. Such fluorescent properties demonstrate their potential use in bio-analysis and as fluorogenic probing. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The peripheral Cu atom is in a trigonal-bipyramidal coordination environment formed by the nitrogen atom of the deprotonated bridging dimethylpyrazole unit, the bridging oxygen atom of the deprotonated OH group, two oxygen atoms of the protonated hydroxy groups and the nitrogen atom of triethanolamine. One of the C atoms and the Br- anion were found to be disordered over two positions with occupancy factors of 0.808 (9):0.192 (9) and 0.922 (3):0.078 (3), respectively.
