The current work investigates the performance of a real-time scan conversion algorithm for generating a 2-D ultrasound image from a laterally scanned single-element ultrasound transducer, which has applications in point-of-care devices such as for skin imaging. The algorithm employs a fixed calibration curve to update a predefined image grid in real time. Simulations showed that the calibration curve (with a maximum of 1) is robust to changes in scatterer concentration (8.3 x 10(-3) mean absolute error), signal to noise ratio (1.0 x 10(-3) mean absolute error for -5 dB SNR), and can be accurately predicted from a small number (31) of point scatterers (6.9 x 10(-3) mean absolute error). Good agreement was also found between the calibration curves obtained from simulated and experimental data (1.19 x 10(-2) mean absolute error). The scan conversion algorithm was validated by evaluation of the position estimation errors on both simulations and experiments. Clinical images of skin lesions (N = 20) demonstrate the feasibility of the algorithm for real, non-homogeneous tissue. Use of a fixed calibration curve compared to an adaptive calibration curve gave similar accuracies in the scanning step size range of 150-350 mu m (with an average overlap of the accuracy ranges of 92.94% for simulations and 42.83% for experiments), and a 350-fold improvement in computation time.

Alternatively, tuning the Pd catalyst switched the reactivity toward an unprecedented [4+3] cycloaddition/cross-coupling. Ampelocalamus scandens is native to Guizhou Province, China, and grows at an altitude of 260-320 m. It can be used as a raw material for weaving and papermaking. In the current study, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of A. scandens was sequenced and is reported for the first time. The complete cp sequence was 139,504 bp, include large single-copy (LSC), small single-copy (SSC), and a pair of invert repeats (IR) region of 83,103 bp, 12,813 bp, and 21,793 bp, respectively. Besides, the plastid genome comprised a total of 132 genes, including protein-coding, tRNA, and rRNA genes as 85, 39, and 8 genes, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis based on 28 cp genomes reveals that A. scandens is closely associated with Ampelocalamus melicoideus in Arundinarodae.

Synthesis of the multidentate coordinated chelate N3C-H-2, composed of a linked functional pyridyl pyrazole fragment plus a peripheral phenyl and pyridyl unit, was obtained using a multistep protocol. Preparation of Ir(III) metal complexes bearing a N3C chelate in the tridentate (kappa(3)), tetradentate (kappa(4)), and pentadentate (kappa(5)) modes was executed en route from two nonemissive dimer intermediates [Ir(kappa(3)-N3CH)Cl-2](2) (1) and [Ir(kappa(4)-N3C)Cl](2) (2). Next, a series of mononuclear Ir(III) complexes with the formulas [Ir(kappa(4)-N3C)Cl(py)] (3), [Ir(kappa(4)-N3C)Cl(dmap)] (4), [Ir(kappa(4)-N3C)-Cl(mpzH)] (5), and [Ir(kappa(4)-N3C)Cl(dmpzH)] (6), as well as diiridium complexes [Ir-2(kappa(5)-N3C)-(mpz)(2)(CO)(H)(2)] (7) and [Ir-2(kappa(5)-N3C)-(dmpz)(2)(CO)(H)(2)] (8), were obtained upon treatment of dimer 2 with pyridine (py), 4-dimethylaminopyridine (dmap), 4-methylpyrazole (mpzH), and 3,5-dimethylpyrazole (dmpzH), respectively. In this work, we report three deep-blue emitting cationic iridium complexes Ir1-Ir3 with 2′,6′-difluoro-2,3′-bipyridine cyclometalated ligand and pyrazole-type ancillary ligands. Synthesis, crystal structure, photophysical and electrochemical properties of Ir1-Ir3 are studied in detail. Ir1-Ir3 exhibit efficient phosphorescence emissions at 439, 438 and 437 nm with CIE 1931 coordinates of (0.14, 0.12), (0.14, 0.12) and (0.14, 0.13), and luminescence quantum yields of 0.35, 0.27 and 0.50 in CH2Cl2 solutions, respectively, which are among the highest levels of ever reported cationic iridium(III) complexes emitting deep-blue light. High luminescence quantum yields, excellent color purity and short lifetimes demonstrates the great potential of Ir1-Ir3 for lightemitting electrochemical cells (LECs) and solution-processable organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) as efficient blue emitters.

Background: The Islamic Republic of Iran is at high risk of natural disasters. Households are the basic unit of society and they need to be prepared for disasters. Aims: This study assessed disaster preparedness among Iranian households in 2015. Methods: Using multistage cluster sampling, 2968 households in the catchment area of 53 public health departments in all 30 provinces of the Islamic Republic of Iran were surveyed on the disaster preparedness measures they had taken in the past year. The data collection questionnaire included 15 disaster preparedness measures. The mean preparedness score was calculated and its association with residence (urban versus rural), house ownership (owner versus renter) and education level of the head of the household (illiterate, elementary school, middle school, high school, university) was evaluated. Results: The mean score for household disaster preparedness was 9.3 out of 100 (95% confidence interval: 8.3-10.3). Multivariate analysis showed higher preparedness among rural than urban households (P = 0.02). Higher education level was positively associated with a higher preparedness score (P < 0.001), as was house ownership (P < 0.001). Conclusion: The level of household disaster preparedness in the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2015 was low. In line with the first priority for action of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the current study provides an overall picture of household disaster preparedness in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Importance: treatment of dementia in individuals with comorbidities is complex, leading to potentially inappropriate prescribing (PIP). The impact of PIP in this population is unknown. Objective: to estimate the rate of PIP and its effect on adverse health outcomes (AHO). Design: retrospective cohort. Setting: primary care electronic health records linked to hospital discharge data from England. Subjects: 11,175 individuals with dementia aged over 65 years in 2016 and 43,463 age- and sex-matched controls. Methods: Screening Tool of Older Persons’ Prescriptions V2 defined PIP. Logistic regression tested associations with comorbidities at baseline, and survival analyses risk of incident AHO, adjusted for age, gender, deprivation and 14 comorbidities. Results: the dementia group had increased risk of PIP (73% prevalence; odds ratio [OR]: 1.92; confidence interval [CI]: 83-103%; P < 0.01) after adjusting for comorbidities. Most frequent PIP criteria were related to anti-cholinergic drugs and therapeutic duplication. Risk of PIP was higher in patients also diagnosed with coronary-heart disease (odds OR: 2.17; CI: 1.91-2.46; P < 0.01), severe mental illness (OR: 2.09; CI: 1.62-2.70; P < 0.01); and depression (OR: 1.81; CI: 1.62-2.01; P < 0.01). During follow-up (1 year), PIP was associated with increased all-cause mortality (hazard ratio: 1.14; CI: 1.021.26; P < 0.02), skin ulcer and pressure sores (hazard ratio: 1.66; CI: 1.12-2.46; P< 0.01), falls (hazard ratio: 1.37; CI: 1.15-1.63; P < 0.01), anaemia (hazard ratio: 1.61; CI: 1.10-2.38; P < 0.02) and osteoporosis (hazard ratio: 1.62; CI: 1.022.57; P < 0.04). Conclusion: patients with dementia frequently receive PIPs, and those who do are more likely to experience AHO. Herein we report the first Ni(II)-catalysed transfer hydrogenation of quinolines using ammonia borane (AB) as hydrogen (H-2) source. An in situ generated Ni(II)-bis(pyrazolyl)pyridine pre-catalyst could hydrogenate quinoline and its derivatives in excellent yields of up to 90% at 25 degrees C in 30 minutes. Spectroscopic studies revealed that a Ni(II)-hydride is responsible for the transfer hydrogenation of quinoline to 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline via a 1,4-dihydroquinoline intermediate.

Background: The Islamic Republic of Iran is at high risk of natural disasters. Households are the basic unit of society and they need to be prepared for disasters. Aims: This study assessed disaster preparedness among Iranian households in 2015. Methods: Using multistage cluster sampling, 2968 households in the catchment area of 53 public health departments in all 30 provinces of the Islamic Republic of Iran were surveyed on the disaster preparedness measures they had taken in the past year. The data collection questionnaire included 15 disaster preparedness measures. The mean preparedness score was calculated and its association with residence (urban versus rural), house ownership (owner versus renter) and education level of the head of the household (illiterate, elementary school, middle school, high school, university) was evaluated. Results: The mean score for household disaster preparedness was 9.3 out of 100 (95% confidence interval: 8.3-10.3). Multivariate analysis showed higher preparedness among rural than urban households (P = 0.02). Higher education level was positively associated with a higher preparedness score (P < 0.001), as was house ownership (P < 0.001). Conclusion: The level of household disaster preparedness in the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2015 was low. In line with the first priority for action of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the current study provides an overall picture of household disaster preparedness in the Islamic Republic of Iran. This estimation can be used as a baseline value for policy-making, planning, and evaluation of public awareness of disasters in the country. Iridium-catalysed catalytic, regioselective C-H borylation of beta-aryl-aminopropionic acid derivatives gives access to 3,5-functionalised protected beta-aryl-aminopropionic acid boronates. The synthetic versatility of these new boronates is demonstrated through sequential one-pot functionalisation reactions to give diverse building blocks for medicinal chemistry. The C-H borylation is also effective for dipeptide substrates. We have exemplified this methodology in the synthesis of a pan alpha(v)integrin antagonist.
