Microwave-assisted pyrolysis of furfural residue (FR) in an auger reactor was conducted. The biochar yield decreased and non-condensable gas yield increased with increasing temperature. Condensate yield reached maximum (i.e. 21.49 wt%) at 550 degrees C. Kaolin, CaO and K2CO3 enhanced tar secondary reactions, reduced the yield and O/C ratio of bio-oil, improved GC-MS areas of phenolic compounds to 76.25%, 89.28% and 93.1%, respectively. All additives improved yields of H-2 and CH4, while CaO reduced CO2. With increasing temperature, relative proportion (RP) of HCN/NH3 reached up to 13.67, while RP of H2S and chlorine in volatiles increased from 1.17%, 5.97% to 2.75%, 9.00%, respectively. Ammonia nitrogen in volatiles increased to 6.94% by K2CO3. Kaolin improved RP of HCN from 0.11% to 5.47%, while K2CO3 eliminated HCN. H2S increased with kaolin addition and decreased with CaO and K2CO3. Electricity consumption of MWAP varied from 0.5 to 3.78 (kWh/kg FR) depending on temperatures and additives. Ampelocalamus scandens is native to Guizhou Province, China, and grows at an altitude of 260-320 m. It can be used as a raw material for weaving and papermaking. In the current study, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of A. scandens was sequenced and is reported for the first time. The complete cp sequence was 139,504 bp, include large single-copy (LSC), small single-copy (SSC), and a pair of invert repeats (IR) region of 83,103 bp, 12,813 bp, and 21,793 bp, respectively. Besides, the plastid genome comprised a total of 132 genes, including protein-coding, tRNA, and rRNA genes as 85, 39, and 8 genes, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis based on 28 cp genomes reveals that A. scandens is closely associated with Ampelocalamus melicoideus in Arundinarodae.

The changes in spectra and intensities of the streamwise component of turbulent velocity are calculated in the inflow of a turbine rotor. The flow is initially calculated in the limit when the turbulence is of small scale compared with the rotor diameter. Rapid distortion theory (RDT), Batchelor & Proudman (Q. J. Mech. Appl. Maths, vol. 7 (1), 1954, pp. 83-103) (BP), for small-scale turbulence is combined with the effect of the fluctuating potential flow field on the turbulence caused by the direct interaction of the incident turbulence with the rotor as a sheet of resistance. A second computation is then carried out for turbulence of larger length scale. The results of the calculations are compared with velocity measurements in the inflow of both a commercial wind turbine and a tidal turbine rotor.

Three novel mixed ligand Zn(II) complexes {complex 1 = [Zn(L1)(2)(bpy)], complex 2 = [Zn(L2)(2)(bPY)], complex 3 = [Zn(L2)(2)(phen)], where bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline} of 4-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-2-(3-chlorophenyl)-5-methyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one (HL1) and 4-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-5-methyl-2-(p-tolyl)-2,4-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one (HL2) were synthesized and characterized by H-1 and C-13 NMR, FTIR, TG-DTA, UV-Vis, elemental analysis, molar conductance and single crystal X-ray structure determination. Based on analytical and spectroscopic techniques, all the three Zn(II) complexes were found to have a distorted octahedral geometry. The ligands and the complexes were screened for antimalarial activity against plasmodium falciparum. The zinc(II) complexes showed greater antimalarial activity than their parent ligands. The Pd(ii)-catalyzed activation of Csp(2)-H bond and double alkyne annulation which proceeds via allylic isomerization is reported for the first time. This reaction of antipyrines with alkynes provides an efficient synthetic route for the biologically important spiro-cyclopentadiene pyrazolones. In the presence of Lawesson’s reagent, this Pd(ii)-catalyzed annulation reaction affords another spiro-cyclopentadiene pyrazolone which displays very good fluorescence properties.

Two unexpected one-dimensional coordination polymers, [Cu(PT)(H2O)Cl](n) 1 and [Cu-2(BPT)(ClO4)(3)(H2O)(4)](n)center dot 2nH(2)O 2, of symmetrical triazine-based ligands were synthesized by Cu(II)-mediated hydrolysis of the 2,4-bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-6-methoxy-1,3,5-triazine (MBPT) pincer ligand. The reaction of Cu(ClO4)(2)center dot 6H(2)O with MBPT proceeded via hydrolysis of the methoxy group to produce the dicompartmental 4,6-bis(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-triazin-2(1H)-one ligand (HBPT) that then undergoes in situ complexation with Cu(II) to afford 2. In case of CuCl2, the reaction proceeds further with C-N cleavage of one pyrazolyl unit leading to the formation of 6-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-1,3,5-triazine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione ligand (HPT) that also undergoes in situ complexation with Cu(II) affording 1. The role of Cu(II) is to increase the Lewis acid reactivity of the water molecule where similar hydrolytic reactions for MBPT were observed in acidic medium in presence of an aqueous HCl (1:1 v/v) solution. The molecular and supramolecular structures of complexes 1 and 2 were investigated using X-ray diffraction of single crystal, Hirshfeld analysis, and density functional theory calculations. The Cl center dot center dot center dot H (11.7%) and O center dot center dot center dot H (24.7%) contacts are the most important in 1, whereas the molecular packing of 2 is controlled mainly by the O center dot center dot center dot H (58.7%) hydrogen bonds. Complex 2 showed better activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, and Candida albicans compared with the standard antibiotics amoxicillin, tetracycline, and ampicillin. In general, complexes 1 and 2 showed good antimicrobial activity than these antibiotics and have the advantage to be used as both antibacterial and antifungal agents.

The current work investigates the performance of a real-time scan conversion algorithm for generating a 2-D ultrasound image from a laterally scanned single-element ultrasound transducer, which has applications in point-of-care devices such as for skin imaging. The algorithm employs a fixed calibration curve to update a predefined image grid in real time. Simulations showed that the calibration curve (with a maximum of 1) is robust to changes in scatterer concentration (8.3 x 10(-3) mean absolute error), signal to noise ratio (1.0 x 10(-3) mean absolute error for -5 dB SNR), and can be accurately predicted from a small number (31) of point scatterers (6.9 x 10(-3) mean absolute error). Good agreement was also found between the calibration curves obtained from simulated and experimental data (1.19 x 10(-2) mean absolute error). The scan conversion algorithm was validated by evaluation of the position estimation errors on both simulations and experiments. Clinical images of skin lesions (N = 20) demonstrate the feasibility of the algorithm for real, non-homogeneous tissue. Use of a fixed calibration curve compared to an adaptive calibration curve gave similar accuracies in the scanning step size range of 150-350 mu m (with an average overlap of the accuracy ranges of 92.94% for simulations and 42.83% for experiments), and a 350-fold improvement in computation time.
